Ainsdale, 1230-1330:
Common Scoter 500+ (approx)
Great Crested Grebe 10+
Red Throated Diver 8+
Eider 1 adult male
Moody clouds, big flat tide, sunny periods, mellow… and relax.
Stumpy the Caspian Gull dropped in for his bread hit below my position on the dunes, while roosting Sanderling, Dunlin and Turnstones were spooked by the dogs. Again.
Green Woodpecker this afternoon in Ainsdale NNR, in the main sheep enclosure. I’ve been a few times in the last few weeks, looking at the water levels in the Great Crested Newt and Natterjack scrapes. This was the best bird I’ve seen so far.

Thanks Dave – it has been a few years since Yaffles were hanging around the NNR – a great record!

About the same again today at Ainsdale – except no Eider. The Red Throats and Great Crests were a bit closer in today. Peregrine hunting waders off the Green Beach, resting on the sandbanks until the tide pushed it off. Stumpy being bribed with bread by PK in return for a photo session..!
