What’s about?

Yes, yes, we’ve been away (more on that later), but what’s about?
What have we missed this past fortnight?
Are the Avocets back yet?
Let me know via the comments thingy please.
Must be spring soon….

  1. The first two Avocets arrived at Marshside yesterday; Skylarks were in song and the Coots were chasing each other around and making a terrible racket. Many of the Golden Plovers and Black Headed Gulls are sporting their spring colours, too. It definitely looks and sounds like spring even if it doesn’t feel like it.

  2. Plenty of Pinkfeet on Plex Moss today and yesterday, c5000 today, couldn’t find anything among those I could check, but plenty went unchecked as out of range/skittish and mobile. Also c300 Lapwing, small numbers of Shellduck and nice flocks of Skylark feeding in the stubble and a Yellowhammer calling from Haskayne Cutting.

  3. Estimated 300 Whoopers on a ploughed field between Halsall and Birkdale late yesterday evening, and either still there or back again this morning. Near the RSPCA place. Couldn’t stop to check for Bewicks.

  4. A trip over to the Wirral today to Neston and Burton Wetlands.

No sign of the Water Pipit at the sewage works when I left around 12:20. Chiffchaff seen in this area.

    Burton Wetlands
Merlin, Hen Harrier, 2 Stonechat, Great White Egret, Snipe, Avocet all seen from the reception hide. Then 1 Long Eared Owl seen on the path toward the IMF hide.
